The scars that the earthquake left on the Cathedral structure is a significant historical ‘document’ in itself of how the earthquake has affected the city. I very strongly believe that it is important to keep these stones on top of each other for future generations to remember the quakes. If it was to be wiped out I think it would leave a great hole in the history of the city that could not be replaced.

We should be putting pressure on to stop and think about how to devise a way to retain some part of this structure for future generations. I for one, (who witnessed the toppling of the cathedral spire from the southern corner of the square on 12:51pm 22nd Feb.) want to be able to take my kids and their kids back to some component of this building to remember what life once was in Christchurch and to marvel at how far the city and moved on since.
